My Funny Valentine

Harry would be the first to admit that he is the 'heart and the kind of flowers' of that type. To his mind, all that 'valentine' stuff a bit 'Sissy - good for kids, but not for a man in his late fifties.

Gloria, on the other hand, is an incurable romantic. Was recently complaining that he never buys her flowers or take her anywhere nice. Can not understand the logic of a woman, sometimes. Did not lead to that posh restaurant for their silver wedding anniversary in 1999? Costhim an arm and a leg, too. Flowers, well, are another thing - loss of time in the book of Harry - and (if memory serves him correctly) do sneeze.

It seems, however, that glory of being beaten on this occasion. valentine's Day is the horizon - that says it wants a romantic break and insists that will have a romantic break, even if you have to drag him away kicking and screaming.

Harry knows when it is defeated. Hesettled to watch the football, while an enthusiastic Gloria controls on the Internet for a suitable place. Very soon, she's found - a wonderful characteristic, converted 16th century Inn located in the heart of historic Stratford-upon-Avon, the town famous for Shakespeare and his works and romantic sonnets. Booking could not be easier and now all that has to do is to persuade Harry, who will have a great time.

As you head for Warwickshire, Harry is still unenthused. Notin all things sentimental poetry, and then there's Six Nations match on Saturday. He had his heart to relax in his chair, with his slippers and some cans to his side. Typical.

Upon his arrival at the inn, Harry and Gloria are shown in their room, which is in the original, part of the 16th century the hotel. Harry can not but be struck by the olde worlde charm and elegant furnishings. The room has a large, soft bed of crisp, white linen, his own bathroom, Bathroom direct dial telephone, color TV (a bit 'of a small screen, perhaps, Harry thought, but never mind), along with a host of other amenities and room service 24 hours.

To create the atmosphere, Gloria arranged for them to be greeted with a bottle of champagne and chocolates - very good after a long journey. Things are starting to look better, much better.

Better yet for Harry when he discovers that the hotel was an Ale House since 1640 and has two bars serving a fine, wide range of beers beers with original hand pumps. He can hardly believe his luck when he learns that one of the bar boasts a large screen TV in particular for screening sporting events - and is open all day! Alleluia!

How to enjoy a cold beer in a bar atmosphere, Harry's eyes are drawn as if by hypnosis to the TV and Gloria suggests that a little compromise is required. She will take the rugby with him, if you will agree to share a cozy, romantic dinnerthe restaurant later. Harry agrees.

Beers later, now in terms named with several other guests and very pleased with the outcome of the Six Nations match, Harry escorts Gloria pleased with the warm, wood-paneled restaurant. Together, they enjoy a meal in first class, sipping their coffee and what Gloria thinks it must be imagining things, such as Harry seems to be a little 'misty-eyed. Suddenly, you leave the table disappears for a couple of minutes, then returns with hishands behind his back. As you sit back, stifling a sneeze, shows a perfect Gloria, red rose, leaning on the table and plants a kiss on the cheek.

How to snuggle up later, Gloria smiles as he realizes that, yes, his Harry can be romantic after all. Meanwhile, Harry allows himself a deep sleep, dreaming of that winning goal by Jonny Wilkinson drop. That emotional moment that was ... really brought a tear to his eye.
